FOUR DATES TO KEEP IN MIND

2026 · EXPLORE

October 1

Marketing for 2027 plans begins. Start learning about next year’s options and attend a sales presentation.

2026 · ENROLLMENT OPENS

October 15

The Annual Enrollment Period begins. This is when you can start making AEP coverage changes.

2026 · ENROLLMENT CLOSES

December 7

Your plan must receive your AEP enrollment request by this date.

2027 · COVERAGE BEGINS

January 1

Coverage changes made during AEP take effect for the new year.

Your needs come first.
Start there.

An annual review is a chance to check whether your coverage still fits. Look at changes to your current plan alongside your doctors, prescriptions, and expected costs.

01

Your doctors and hospitals

List the providers you want to keep seeing. Check their participation in the specific plan you’re considering for 2027.

02

Your prescriptions and pharmacy

Gather your medication names, dosages, and preferred pharmacy. Review coverage, restrictions, and estimated annual costs.

03

Your total costs

Look beyond the monthly premium. Consider deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and the plan’s limits and rules.

04

Your Annual Notice of Change

Read your current plan’s notice to see what is changing for the coming year, and bring your questions to your review.

What can you change during AEP?

Depending on your current coverage and eligibility, you can join, drop, or switch Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans, or change between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage.

Medicare Supplement insurance (Medigap) has separate enrollment protections and rules. AEP does not automatically guarantee that you can buy a Medigap policy without medical underwriting.

AEP, EXPLAINED

Know the dates.
Understand your options.

Is 2027 AEP in 2026 or 2027?

Enrollment for 2027 coverage takes place October 15–December 7, 2026. Coverage changes made during that period start January 1, 2027.

Why are there presentations before October 15?

Marketing for the next plan year starts October 1. Sales presentations can give you time to explore your 2027 options before AEP enrollment opens October 15.

Do I have to change my plan?

No. A review helps you understand whether your current coverage still meets your needs and what is changing. If your plan is continuing and you remain eligible, you may be able to keep it. Read all notices from your plan.

Can I enroll outside AEP?

Other enrollment periods may apply when you first become eligible for Medicare or experience certain qualifying circumstances. Ask about your situation; the rules depend on the type of coverage and the enrollment period.
